DS Smith's paper mill in Lucca, Italy, achieves ISO 50001 Energy Management certification

DS Smith Paper's paper mill in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy, received the ISO 50001 Energy Management certification for the first time, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the world’s leading quality management regulators, awards the Energy Management certification to organisations that develop efficient energy usage policies, use data to make decisions about energy use, and continually improve energy management – among other criteria.

The ISO 500001 certification is the first certification to be fully integrated between Lucca Mill and its on-site power plant. DS Smith Paper worked with an external consultant to implement a series of internal audits, before a final audit by an external certifier confirmed that the mill and power plant had reached the ISO 50001 standard.

Lido Ferri, Sustainability Manager at DS Smith Lucca Paper Mill, said: “It is very important for us to have this certification, because the systems we have developed for it will help us to manage the mill’s consumption of heat and power, making us more sustainable.”
