Göran Örlander, Sustainable Forestry Strategist at Södra, was elected Chairman of the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute. Göran will succeed Herman Sundquist, who stepped down from the position earlier this year when he was appointed Director General of the Swedish Forest Agency, as the company says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
"The forest is Sweden's most important resource in the transition towards a bioeconomy. The
Forestry Research Institute of Sweden plays a key role in the move towards
low-impact forestry with high productivity," says Göran Örlander.
The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden is funded by the forest industry and
the Swedish government. The Institute's mission is to develop and communicate
knowledge, services and products that further increase sustainability when
using the forest for social benefits.
Göran Örlander has been employed at Södra for 13 years, is a forest officer,
holds a PhD in Forestry, and has previously held positions at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Linnaeus University and the Swedish Forest Agency.
The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden conducts research on sustainable
development. The Institute has more than 120 employees, of whom about 75 are
researchers.
