Kastamonu increases output of products made of PEFC-certified raw materials

In the 1Q 2019, the Kastamonu wood processing plant in the Alabuga SEZ, Russia, increased the output of products made of PEFC-certified raw materials. Since the start of production, the company has also been actively cooperating with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Today the average monthly board production of PEFC-certified raw materials at the Kastamonu plant is more than 20% higher than the board production of FSC-certified raw materials.

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certifiation sihemes) is a voluntary confirmation of compliance, providing guarantees that wood products are made of objectively certified wood in accordance with the European criteria and requirements.

“Kastamonu is not engaged in logging and purchasing raw materials from certified suppliers only it encourages others to undergo this certification,” said Ali Kılıç, General Director of Kastamonu in Russia. “Due to this work, today the forestry enterprises of Tatarstan, which supply raw materials for the Kastamonu plant, have FSC certificates – it means that in parallel with logging they carry out reforestation works in the volumes that exceed logging. At the same time, an important advantage of the PEFC RUSSIA system is its full compliance with the national legislation of the Russian Federation and its international obligations aimed at the rational use, conservation and restoration of forest resources”.

Kastamonu specializes in the manufacturing of MDF wood boards, particleboards, laminate flooring, door skin panels, and glossy panels.
