Martinsons plans to cease sawntimber production of Hällnäs mill in Sweden

Martinsons will cease sawntimber production in Hällnäs sawmill in Sweden. There are 43 members of staff at the Hällnäs plant. Everyone will be offered employment in Bygdsiljum sawmill, when production ends in time for the 2018 summer holiday. The plan is now to sell existing machinery, as the company says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The main reason for the move is the need to render the Group's total production more effective. The cost of producing one cubic meter of sawn timber is approximately 50% higher in Hällnäs than in Bygdsiljum.

The plant in Hällnäs has been owned and operated by Martinsons’ since 1996. During this time, the company has invested over SEK 100 million ($11.8 million) in sawmill.

The Martinsons Group is one of Sweden’s largest producers of glulam and construction systems for apartment blocks, buildings and bridges in wood.
