U.S. log exports increases 6.7% in Q1 2018, average export price up 7.5%


U.S. log exports increased 6.7% in Q1 2018 YoY to 3.09 million m3 with export value grew up by 14.7% to $656.3 million, according to the USDA. U.S. log exports to China, the largest consumer of U.S. log, gained 11.0% to 1.39 million m3 and 19.8% by value ($344.5 million). The exports to second-largest consumer Canada slipped 0.2% to 916.4 thousand m3, and exports to Japan increased 2.6% to 497.7 thousand m3.

The average price of U.S. log in Q1 2018 was $212 per m3, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same period last year. The average price of log exports to China was $247 per m3 (+7.9%), to Canada was $99 (+2.6%), and to Japan was $256 (+16.5%).
