FSC approved a roadmap for re-association with the Danzer Group

Jul 14, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. The International Board of Directors of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has approved a roadmap for the re-association with the Danzer Group. The roadmap was negotiated with Danzer and will be verified by the Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) and the FSC Quality Assurance Unit, as FSC said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The roadmap details final steps that Danzer must complete before FSC ends its disassociation from the Group. It is based on the two main conditions stipulated by the Board in 2013, which will be verified according to a set of specific outcome indicators.

The first condition is that Danzer has fully performed the contractual obligations towards the Yalisika community in the Democratic Republic of Congo by completing construction of the community’s medical centre and school. In addition, Danzer is required to build medical centers and schools for communities neighboring Yalisika. The outcome indicators require full completion of five buildings including those at Yalisika and an advanced stage of construction for the remaining five buildings.

The second condition requires Industrie Forestière de Ouesso (IFO), a subsidiary of Danzer in the Republic of Congo, to amend their procedures based on recommendations from FPP with regards to Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). The conflict manual developed as part of the re-association process will be augmented to specifically address land and resource conflicts. Danzer will also carry out FPIC processes and field testing in the IFO concession as well as expand the capacity of IFO’s social team.
