The Board’s decision was based on a commissioned report provided by the Forest Peoples Programme (FPP), which identified that certain intended outcomes on the ground had not completely materialized. FPP recommended the re-association on condition that Danzer would commit to meeting additional demands. While FPP proposed immediate re-association with certain conditions to be fulfilled at a later time, the FSC Board decided that re-association has to be unconditional in nature and therefore chose a more cautious approach.
FSC and Danzer will develop a “roadmap”, which will detail what steps must be taken by Danzer to complete its required corrective actions for re-association.
FSC and Danzer will now negotiate a time-bound roadmap for re-association and work further with FPP to verify the roadmap’s implementation on the ground.
