Guyana’s wood product exports increased by 11% in 1H 2015

Aug 14, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. In the first half of 2015 earnings from Guyana’s wood product exports increased by just over 11% on the same period in 2014 to $21.7 million, ITTO reported.

Log exports in the first half of 2015 generated earnings of $11.8 million compared to the $8.7 million in the first half of 2014.

First half 2015 sawnwood export earnings amounted to $9.4 million compared to $8.8 in the same period in 2014, an increase of almost 7%.

However, plywood exports fell during the first half of this year to $0.91 million as against the $0.97 million in the first half of 2014, a decline of around 6%.

Exports of shingles were encouraging and earned $0.88 million in the first half of 2015 and exports of roundwood and fuelwood fetched $0.94 million in the first half of this year. Guyana’s exports of added value products are modest and first half 2015 earnings totaled just $130,000.

The majority of Guyana’s wood product exports are to markets in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Oceania, Middle East countries and North and South America.
