Ilim Group allocated $640 thousand for fire fighting in Irkutsk region of Russia

In 2009, timber harvesting enterprises of Ilim Group belonging to Ilim Vostok business division (Irkutsk region) allocated over 20 million roubles (about $640 thousand) for fire fighting arrangements, as informed by the Group’s press service. In the town of Bratsk, 12 million roubles ($383 thousand) were directed for this purpose, 10 million ($320 thousand) of which are intended for fire-prevention activities, about 1.7 million ($54 thousand) for additional procurement of fire-extinguishing equipment. 44 fire brigades are formed of 246 plant workers. Contracts for fire fighting in protective and commercial forests are concluded with all forest enterprises. Emergency operations center is established, fire extinguishing equipment including trailer and bulldozer are put in operational readiness. In the town of Ust-Ilimsk, over 8 million roubles ($256 thousand) are allocated for fire extinguishing activities, of which 3.5 million ($112 thousand) are directed for fire fighting, the rest is headed for prevention activities and air control. For instance, agreements of satellite monitoring of forest fires with forest control air base are concluded. Apart from that, during the whole fire-hazardous season emergency fire fighting center will operate at the mill.
