Lunawood increases thermowood production capacity

Mar 14, 2013. /Lesprom Network/. Lunawood is increasing its thermowood production capacity by investing in two new processing kilns for the plant unit located in Soinlahti, Iisalmi. With the investment the capacity of the plant will increase with 17,000 cubic metres a year to a total annual production of 62,000 cubic metres. The new capacity is to be taken into use at the beginning of November 2013, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.

Jartek Oy has been chosen as the processing equipment supplier. The choice was supported by good experiences in cooperation in previous investments and the development of the thermal modification process.

In addition two logistic warehouses will be constructed at the Soinlahti production unit to meet the needs of the growing production capacity. Due to the investment also the number of personnel in production will be increased by six.

The additional production will be sold on the current market in Finland and in exports mainly to central Europe. Also the Near East, Russia and Asian markets are going to be targeted by the company in the future.

“At the beginning of 2012 we invested in a new line for further development and planing at Soinlahti. With the increase in thermowood capacity we will be able to benefit fully from this earlier investment,” says company CEO Arto Halonen.

According to Halonen, the aim of the company is to process thermowood as far as possible towards the exterior cladding, terrace and interior design product families. In his opinion the consumers are increasingly appreciative of ecological solutions where no chemicals are used in the manufacturing process.

Oy Lunawood Ltd is an industrial producer of high quality Finnish thermowood. The company was founded by two brothers Olavi and Aulis Kärkkäinen in 2000.
