Metsä Group reported 1Q comparable operating result of Euro 128 million

Metsä Group's sales for the 1Q 2017 were Euro 1,216.1 million, compared to Euro 1,155.6 million in 1Q 2016. The growth in sales is primarily the result of greater delivery volumes, as the company says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The comparable operating result was Euro 127.9 million, or 10.5% of sales. The operating result was improved mainly by favourable development in the paperboard business and the discontinuation of the loss-making paper business.

Metsä Group's 1Q 2017 operating result (IFRS) was Euro 131.2 million, compared to Euro 106.8 million in 1Q 2016.

President and CEO Kari Jordan said: “Metsä Group's result-making ability improved during the 1Q 2017 compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. The biggest profitability improvement was achieved in the Paperboard Industry. The capacity of Husum mill’s folding boxboard machine which started up last year has been utilized increasingly efficiently. The new extrusion coating line that came on stream in April supports growth in the food packaging and food service segments.”

Metsä Group focuses on wood supply and forest services, wood products, pulp, fresh fibre paperboards and tissue and cooking papers.
