Metso to upgrade chemical recovery units for Korsnas AB in Sweden

Mar 13, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Metso will supply Korsnas AB with a new evaporation plant and two recovery boiler upgrades at the company's pulp mill in Gavle, Sweden, as the Metso informed Lesprom Network. The value of the order is more than Euro 20 million, Metso said. The evaporation plant has the capacity to evaporate 750 tons of water per hour and it concentrates black liquor from pulp cooking for the recovery boiler combustion up to the dry solid content of 75%. The new evaporation plant is part of the mill's modernization project and will replace three existing evaporation units. The new plant will significantly increase the mill's overall energy efficiency in addition to improving availability and environmental performance, Mesto added. Start-up for the evaporation plant is scheduled for the 2Q 2010. In addition, mill's two existing recovery boilers will be upgraded for higher dry solids content from the new evaporation plant. Metso's multi-level air system will be installed in both boilers to improve the combustion efficiency, environmental performance and availability of the recovery boilers. Start-up of the first recovery boiler is scheduled for the 2Q 2009 and the second recovery boiler for the 4Q 2010. The Gavle Mill has the capacity to produce 700 thousand tons per year of sulphate pulp and 700 thousand tons per year of paper and paper board. The mill operates three paper machines – PM2, PM4, and PM5.
