Säker Skog (Safe Forest) in Sweden plans to grow with new members

Jan 12, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Project Säker Skog which started in 2002, has become an independent financial organization that wants to grow by recruiting new members. Purpose of the project is to reduce accidents and improve the working environment in family forestry, as the Nordic Forest Owners' Associations said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. “Project Safe Forest has been a great success. Safety awareness is increasing in the small-scale forestry and the need to learn chainsaw handling has been widely recognized. Project Safe Forest has issued more than 17 000 chainsaw and brush cutter license over the years. Now it's time to get long-term planning and operational stability, and then, of course, from the beginning build a strong union,” says Jan-Olof Thorstensson, who since 2002 has been the Säker Skog chairman. In Safe Forest Economical Society, formed in early December 2010, all the major stakeholders from the project are included as members. The main stakeholders are the four forest owners associations, Forest Service, Husqvarna, Stihl and Svenljunga Natural Resources High School.
