Segezhsky pulp-and-paper mill, Karelia Republic, Russia, began to develop technical and economic assessment for building of a plant for bleached market pulp production, PPM CEO Vasily Preminin said in an interview for Lesnaya Industriya magazine. The decision will be taken in 2006. In the current year, Segezhsky pulp-and-paper mill plans to complete the deal for purchase of Korsnas Packaging, to build a new management structure and to come out on the market as a renovated company. It is possible that the company will be renamed. It will be clear in the next three months. The company has also to decide whether it will be Russian or foreign. Segezhsky pulp-and-paper mill is interested in its business development in Asia. Asian market consumes 34$ of worldwide volume of paper bags and their production will grow. Preminin said that it is interesting for the mill to have its plant in Vietnam, for example. Strategically it is planned to have own production in Asia. In December 2005, the company bought Korsnas Packaging that is daughter enterprise of Swedish concern Investment AB Kinnevik for Euro 73.5 million. In 2005, gain of Segezhsky PPM made up RUR5.296 billion, net profit was estimated as RUR150 million.
