The Södra Research Foundation to grant SEK 9 million ($1 million) for research and development

The Södra Research Foundation has decided to grant an additional SEK 9 million ($1 million) to research projects linked to forestry and the forest industry. Nine different projects have received funding, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The largest single initiative is ‘Future forest management in southern Sweden,’ a research programme to develop techniques for more varied forest management and to increase the use of digital data sources in southern Sweden. The project – a partnership between the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Linnaeus University and the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden – has been granted SEK 4 million ($460,000).

“While forests are playing an increasingly significant role in the bio-based community, the conditions for forestry are changing. We have made a lot of progress with forestry in southern Sweden, but we want more. There is more to do in terms of both production rates and diversity. This research will contribute. It will create even more opportunities for a stable and forest-based future,” said Göran Örlander, Chairman of the Södra Research Foundation.

Other projects to receive funding span a broad range of forest industry-related areas, from multi-storey wood-frame buildings to various forest management and monitoring techniques.
