The notified area of final felling continues to increase during May in the region Northern Sweden. The increase was 29% compared with the same month last year, as the Swedish Forest Agency says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The increase in the notified area of final felling during the first months of the year in the north continues to rise. In the first five months of the year, the increase was 36% in Northern Sweden, compared with the total of whole country, which was only increase by 3%.

In the May statistics, there is a peak increase in Södermanland county by 175% compared to the same month last year, which is the largest since 2007 in Södermanland county.

At the same time, there are still major regional differences. In the south, where there is now a slowdown and decline in region South Sweden (Götaland) by 20%.

In South of Northern Sweden (Södra Norrland) there is a decline by 10%. At the same time, in region Central Sweden (Svealand) there is an increase by 17% compared with the same period last year.

In total, the notified area of final felling increased in May by 0.4% to 21,385 hectares compared to the corresponding month in the previous year.

On the county level, the notified area of final felling decreased in 12 of 21 counties. The largest decrease, 45%, was in Blekinge county followed by Halland county with 38% and Kalmar county by 30%.
