Tolleson Lumber achieves SFI certified sourcing certification

Jan 09, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. Tolleson Lumber, managed by Ilim Timber, has met Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) sourcing requirements for its sawmills in Perry and Preston, Georgia, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. Tolleson Lumber earned the certification by meeting the fiber sourcing requirements of the SFI 2010-2014 Standard (Objectives 8-20). This includes an auditable procurement process to promote responsible forestry requiring that producers -among other things -support logger and forester training and encourage suppliers in North America to promptly reforest-harvested sites, protect threatened and endangered species, and strengthen best management practices to protect water quality. "At Tolleson Lumber we have a strong commitment to responsible forest management, and so do our customers. SFI certified sourcing helps us meet the high expectations of the people who buy our products, " said Jay Galloway, President of Tolleson Lumber. "The SFI program values the crucial role all forest landowners play in protecting the long-term health and sustainability of our forests, including the millions of family forest owners in North America who supply wood to SFI program participants, " said SFI President and CEO Kathy Abusow. "By meeting SFI sourcing requirements, Tolleson Lumber joins a growing number of companies working with landowners and helping improve forestry practices on millions of additional acres of land". All the mills managed by Ilim Timber Industry pursue responsible social and ecological policy and are certified according to the international standards. Sawn timber Taiga has the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certificate, Ilim Nordic Timber and Ilim Timber Bavaria mills in Germany are certified according PEFC standards.
