Mar 05, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. Total area of notified final felling in Sweden increased by 23% in 2014 compared to 2013. The largest increase was in the Northern Sweden as a result of the storms in autumn 2013, Swedish Forest Agency said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The total notified areas of final felling amounted to 304,430 hectares in 2014, an increase of 23% compared to 2013.

Number of notifications of final felling reported was 69,414 totaling to 298,900 hectares and 695 number of application for permits for final felling totaling to 5,532 hectares. Of these, 66,827 number were notifications of final felling totaling 293,357 hectares, while 2,587 number were for felling for purposes other than timber production totaling 5,543 hectares.

There was an increase in the notified areas of final felling in 16 of 21 counties with the largest rise in the county of Västernorrland. There was also increase in all regions.

The increase was evenly distributed in the ownership category "individual owners" and "other" by half in the notified area of final felling. No major change compared to 2013 but an increase of area by 10% for "individual owners" compared to 2012.
