FSC Canada presents draft national forest management standard
Resolute Forest Products Inc. responded to the proposal put forth by FSC International on December 17, 2015, to launch a mediation process between interested parties with the goal of identifying solutions to forest management issues in the Canadian boreal forest.
Over the last two years, significant areas of FSC certified forests were suspended in Canada mainly because of lack of consent from First Nations, and also because of inadequate forest management plans for species at risk, namely woodlands caribou in the Canadian boreal forest, said FSC in a statement.
The consultation period ends at midnight local time on February 2nd, 2016.
Resolute Forest Products Inc. announced the reinstatement of its Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certificate for the Black Spruce/Dog River-Matawin forest in Northwestern Ontario.
FSC has requested a six-month extension to be granted by the certification body Rainforest Alliance for a suspended forest certificate held by Resolute Forests Products in Lac St-Jean, Quebec. The deadline for the suspension of this certificate is extended from January 2 to July 2, 2015.
