Boise Cascade to invest $22.6 million at Deridder, Louisiana

Mar 13, 2007. /Lesprom Network/. Boise Packaging & Newsprint, a business unit of Boise Cascade, LLC, announced that it is investing an estimated $22.6 million in a project to add a shoe press to the D-1 linerboard machine at its packaging and newsprint mill in DeRidder, Louisiana. A shoe press is used in the manufacturing process to remove water from the linerboard, reducing the need for evaporative or heated drying. “This project represents our continued commitment to increase our presence in the containerboard marketplace and operate at world-class efficiency levels,” said Bob Strenge, vice president, Boise Packaging & Newsprint. The installation is scheduled for spring 2008. Boise’s engineering supplier on the investment is Pasadena, California-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., one of the leading engineering and construction firms serving the paper industry and a long-term collaborator with Boise. Boise’s shoe press supplier is Metso Paper, a full scope supplier of pulping, papermaking and power generation technologies. Boise, headquartered in Boise, Idaho, manufactures engineered wood products, plywood, lumber, and particleboard and distributes a broad line of building materials, including wood products manufactured by the company. Boise also manufactures a wide range of specialty and premium products, including imaging papers for the office and home and papers for pressure sensitive applications, as well as printing and converting papers, containerboard and corrugated boxes, newsprint, and market pulp.
