Brazilian pulp production increased by 12.3% in January 2015

Mar 11, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. In the first month of 2015, Brazilian pulp production reached 1.5 million tons, a 12.3% increase compared to January of 2014, when 1.3 million tons were produced. Paper production remained practically stable in the first month of the year, totaling 875,000 tons compared to 880,000 tons year-over-year. In the wood panels segment, production in January totaled 648,000 cubic metres, a 4% drop year-over-year, as the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá) said in the press release received by Lesprom Network. 

In January 2015, pulp exports totaled 919,000 tons, 4.1% lower than in January of 2014, when 958,000 tons were exported. For the wood panels segment, total exports in the first month of 2015 totaled 36,000 cubic metres, up 38.5% year-over-year, when exports reached 26,000 cubic metres. Paper exports totaled 154,000 tons in January, down 7.8% year-over-year.

Pulp sales in the domestic market in January 2015 remained practically stable year-over-year, totaling 145,000 tons. In the wood panels segment, domestic market sales reached 569,000 cubic metres, 2.9% lower year-over-year. Paper sales totaled 439,000 tons, 4.6% lower than in the same period in 2014.

In the first month of 2015, export revenues from pulp, wood panels and paper totaled $589 million, which represents a 15.4% drop year-over-year, compared to $696 million. The trade balance for the industry in January is $452 million, 16.6% lower compared to the same period in 2014. Pulp sales to China, which is the second largest market for this Brazilian product, totaled $162 million, 6.4% lower year-over-year.
