Estonian Kohila Vineer to start plywood production in fall 2016

Estonian Kohila Vineer, a company of Latvijas Finieris Group, to start plywood production in fall 2016, the Baltic Course reported. According to Andres Laht, board member of Kohila Vineer, company expects to have the plant running at full capacity at the beginning of 2017. "Until the end of last year we only produced wet veneer in Kohila, plywood has never been produced there," Laht said at a conference Estonian Timber in Tallinn on June 8th.

The decision to start producing plywood was made by Latvijas Finieris, parent company of Kohila Vineer, in 2014 and the investment in facilities totals 60 million euros, he said. Company plans to produce 45,000 cubic meters of plywood per year. The plant will have 230 jobs.

The supplier of the machinery and equipment for plywood production is the Raute Corporation. The scope of delivery includes drying, composing, patching, scarf jointing, lay-up and pressing, sawing, grading, overlaying and by-product handling lines. The deliveries have started in the autumn 2015. Previously the start of plywood production was scheduled to the spring and summer 2016.

Latvijas Finieris is one of the largest birch plywood producing companies in the world with production in all Baltic countries and in Finland. Latvijas Finieris has made investments during several past years to systematically increase its production capacity and develop the quality and productivity.
