The Michigan Forest Products Council (MFPC) unanimously elected new members to its board of directors and its executive committee following a recent board meeting in Lansing. The MFPC's executive committee and board of directors set policy and establish priorities for the statewide industry trade association. Margaret Minerick, president, Sagola Hardwoods, Sagola, will serve as the vice-chair of the council's board of directors and assume the chair's role in September 2006. She will replace Stephen J. Hicks, CEO, J.M. Longyear LCC, Marquette, who stays on the executive committee as immediate past chair. Mark Lukacs, plant manager, NewPage Corporation, Escanaba, was elected treasurer. New directors elected by the board include: Chris Chase, regional procurement manager, Timber Products Company, Munising; Bill Check, plant manager, Northern Hardwoods, South Range; Ron Salisbury, plant manager, Potlatch Company, Gwinn; Al Steege, manager of forest operations, Keweenaw Land Association Limited, Ironwood; and Michel Sussman, plant manager International Paper - Quinnesec Mill, Norway. The Michigan Forest Products Council is a statewide trade association representing the forest products industry, which owns millions of acres of timberland and employs over 154 000 men and women in Michigan. The council works to protect, promote and sustain a globally competitive forest products industry in Michigan.
