Aracruz to invest BRL 660 million in 2006 in capacity increase and improvements

Brazilian pulp and paper company Aracruz Celulose announced on Friday that it plans to invest BRL 660 million ($304.9 million) this year, of which BRL 170 million ($78.5 million) will be spent on increasing the installed capacity of its Espírito Santo plant by 200 000 tonnes per year, while the remaining BRL 490 million ($226.2 million) will be invested in maintenance and improvements, Gazeta Mercantil reported. So far this year the company has produced 3 million tonnes of pulp. Aracruz currently exports 98% of its output.
