Palm Paper Ltd., which operates the world's largest paper mill for newsprint from its King's Lynn site in the UK, was supplied with steam by two natural gas-fired fire-tube boilers, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
In view of environmental and economic considerations, Palm decided to build a combined cycle power plant (CCGT) to provide an independent supply of electricity and steam to the site. The combined cycle power plant was commissioned in spring 2018.
Due to the highly-efficient system used, Palm Paper's CCGT power plant in King’s Lynn has an overall annual efficiency level of more than 80%. This results in an annual saving of more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2.
The total investment (CCGT plant incl. the high-pressure natural gas supply) was approximately Euro 60 million.
