Oct 30, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. In October 2006 new planning line was set into operation at UPM-Kymmene Pestovo sawmill (Novgorod region, Russia), communication director of UPM-Kymmene said. Line’s productive capacity is 60 000 cubic meters of assorted products per annum. The line’s installation has begun at the end of 2005. It created 30 jobs. “UPM isn’t novice at Russian market”, Arto Juvonen, UPM vice-president for Russia says. ”We already started working in Russia at the end of XIX century. In the last years investments in Russia exceeded $140 million. They were directed in development of raw material base and manufacturing capabilities, as well as in infrastructure development. For us, Russia is a very important part of business with a huge resource potential.” UPM started the construction of the sawmill in Pestovo in 2003. The mill started production in 2004. It’s one the most modern sawmills in Russia. Its productive capacity is up to 300 000 cubic meters per annum.
