Value of Brazil's wood products exports declined 7% in July

In July 2018, the value of Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined almost 7% compared to July 2017, from $229.6 million to $214 million, as ITTO reported.

The value of pine sawnwood exports increased about 8% year-on-year in July while the volume of exports dropped 13% over the same period (from 187,200 cubic metres to163,400 cubic metres).

Tropical sawnwood exports also fell from 32,500 cubic metres in July 2017 to 30,800 cubic metres in July 2018. Export values also declined from $14.5 million to $13.7 million over the same period.

Brazil’s pine plywood exports slowed in July from a year earlier dropping almost 3% from $49 million to $47.8 million. There was a corresponding decline in the volume of pine plywood exports from 172,600 cubic metres to 136,200 cubic metres, an over 20% drop.
A decline was also recorded in July exports of tropical plywood. Export volume fell 17% year-on-year from 14,000 cubic metres ($5.4 million) in July 2017 to 11,600 cubic metres ($5.1 million) in July 2018.

On a positive note the value of wooden furniture exports rose sharply in July increasing from $40.8 million in July 2017 to $55.4 million in July 2018.
