Aug 18, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. The Columbus Dispatch recently published a story about the 800 recycling bins AbitibiBowater owns throughout Ohio - 800 of the more than 23,000 bins AbitibiBowater has placed across North America, ForestTalk reported. In Ohio, the income from the recycling bins provides income for hundreds of nonprofit groups. Groups are paid $5 to $20 US per ton for the used paper; the more paper a group collects, the higher the reimbursement. AbitibiBowater picks up 250 to 500 tons of used paper a week from the central Ohio bins. Although some of AbitibiBowater's cheques have bounced, most of the nonprofit organizations will continue to collect recycled paper for the company.
