Sep 13, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Aracruz Celulose, the world leading producer of eucalyptus pulp, and one of Brazil's largest exporters, has just been included in the select rank of companies on the New York Stock Exchange's Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World) 2006. The list highlights the best corporate sustainability practices in the world and was published on September 7, encompassing companies from 58 sectors and 24 countries after analysis by the SAM Group. Aracruz is the only Brazilian company to join this list this year. In the forestry sector, Aracruz is listed together with Stora Enso of Sweden-Finland (Aracruz's partner in the Veracel pulp mill in Bahia) and Finland's UPM-Kymmene. Two other companies from Brazil, Cemig and Banco Itaú, remained on the index. "This is a significant accomplishment for Aracruz. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index has the greatest credibility and is the most complete in the world. It takes into consideration the strictest economic, social and environmental criteria," said Aracruz's president and CEO, Carlos Aguiar. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index lists companies in the top 10% of their respective industries in the world. A total of 2,500 companies were considered for a place on the index. Aracruz competed in the forestry and paper and pulp sector and obtained outstanding ratings in the three dimensions that were appraised.
