Aug 06, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Four companies have been approved to generate and sell power to BC Hydro by burning waste wood in pulp mills, ForestTalk reported. The operations are: -Domtar's pulp mill in Kamloops -Canfor Pulp Ltd. Partnership's project in Prince George -PG Interior Waste to Energy Ltd.'s project in Prince George -Zellstoff Celgar Ltd. Partnership's project in Castlegar The mills will produce 579 gigawatt hours of electricity, which is enough to provide power to 52,000 homes. By the fall, the Domtar mill will be generating 200 gigawatt hours - enough to power more than 18,000 homes. Domtar plans to burn forest-based biomass, such as beetle-kill wood, sawmill residue and debris from logging activity.
