Canadian sawmills produced 4 339.1 thousand m3 of lumber in April, down 14.2% from March 2022 and down 16.4% from April 2021, according to Statistics Canada. Sawmills shipped 4 273.1 thousand m3 of lumber in April, down 4.2% from March 2022 and down 19.6% from April 2021.
In April, Canada’s exports of lumber fell 14.2% year-on-year to 2.89 million m3. Average price of lumber edged up 1.6% to $431.7 per m3, according to Lesprom Analytics. Canada decreased exports of lumber to the U.S. by 11.3% year-on-year to 2.63 million m3. Supplies to China decreased by 26.6% to 77.4 thousand m3, supplies to Japan decreased by 50.4% to 74.4 thousand m3.
