On December 25, 2012 the management of Kondopoga (Karelia) has issued an order to furlough 2.4 thousand employees (40% of the company) because of the difficult financial situation at the plant, as Deputy Minister of Labor of the Republic Mikhail Annenkov reported. Currently, only one of seven existing machines at the plant has been put into operation. Due to the situation at the plant trade unions of Karelia prepared a letter to The President Vladimir Putin. A union representative suggests two variants of further developments: bankruptcy of the company or its takeover by Volga PPM in Nizhny Novgorod, also specializes in the production of newsprint.
