Major equipment installed in cooking and bleaching department of Mondi SLPK (Komi, Russia)

Major equipment in the framework of Step investment project was installed in the cooking and bleaching department of Mondi SLPK, as informed by the company’s press service. Pressure diffuser and pulp washer DD-washer-4580 were installed on May 8 and May 13. DD-washer-4580 is the second pulp washer installed at the plant in the framework of the project. The first one, DD-washer-3060, having less volume and weighing 96 tons, was installed in March 2009. In order to install the second washer, another building was constructed. By now, engineers are preparing to shut down the cooking boiler No.2 scheduled for mid-June. During the shutdown it is planned to perform commissioning of new equipment. The project entails reconstruction of existing hardwood pulp cooking boilers in order to increase its production output up to 750 air-dry tons per day each. New pressure diffuser and receiving tank will be installed, sorting and non-bleached pulp washing departments will be revamped, second level of oxygen delignification will be added at the hardwood pulp line as well as required washing equipment before and after oxygen delignification. Production output of the existing softwood pulp cooking boiler will increase up to 1000 air-dry tons per day after reconstruction. Sorting and non-bleached pulp washing departments will also be reconstructed. Generally, production volume at the cooking and bleaching department after implementation of Step project will boost almost by 30% up to 720,000 air-dry tons annually. Mondi SLPK OJSC belongs to Mondi Group and produces paper and packaging. Located in Syktyvkar (Komi, Russia), the plant specializes in production of office and offset papers as well as newsprint, top liner and kraft liner for corrugated board. The plant’s share on the market of office and offset paper in Russia and CIS is about 40%. Mondi SLPK’s Step project is the largest investment project in Russian pulp and paper industry for the last 30 years entailing reconstruction and modernization of the enterprise. The project is scheduled to finish in 2010.
