SCA's forestry operations have successfully passed an audit against the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Forest Management Standard, confirming the company's compliance with the guidelines for responsible forestry. The two-week audit included field inspections, interviews, and document reviews. A preliminary result noted a few minor non-conformities, according to SCA's Head of Silviculture, Ola Kårén.
The audit verifies that SCA meets detailed requirements for tree retention, broadleaved tree safeguarding, and the use of non-native species. The FSC standard also mandates that five percent of productive forest land be set aside for nature conservation, with an additional five percent managed to preserve natural values. SCA states it exceeds these requirements by allocating a larger share for voluntary conservation set-asides.
SCA's forestry has been FSC-certified since 1999. The company undergoes at least one independent audit annually.
