BRUSSELS, Sept. 18, 2001 (paperloop.com) - Segezha has circled October 22 in its diary to kick off work on the 79,000 tonne/yr sack kraft PM 10 at its mill in Karelia. The Russian producer plans to install an extensible unit on the sack paper machine and replace PM 10's electromechanical drive section. Segezha aims to have the overhaul wrapped up by February 1, 2002. The main suppliers to the project are Voith Paper and Flender. The Segezha mill on the Russo-Finnish border produced 191,000 tonnes of paper in 2000. PM 9 and PM 10 manufactured a total of 162,000 tonnes of sack kraft in 2000, while PM 11 churned out 29,000 tonnes of kraftliner at a basis weight of 115 g/m2 last year. The 110,000 tonne/yr capacity PM 11 resumed production during the second quarter of last year following a period of inactivity. Segezha plans to raise the plant's output to 450,000 tonnes/yr by 2005.
