Dec 18, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. Sierra
Pacific Industries (SPI) will begin construction of a sawmill on the
Frederickson Industrial site immediately. Sierra Pacific purchased the property
earlier this year with the intent of expanding its milling capabilities in Washington, where it currently operates in Aberdeen, Mt.Vernon, and Centralia, as Random Lengths reported.
According
to Lisa Perry, community relations manager for SPI, permits have been issued to
prepare the site, with clearing and grading to start in the next couple of
weeks. Perry stated that “the plan is to begin construction on a new sawmill
complex in spring 2015, with lumber operations starting in 2016.” The initial
mill project is estimated to provide 150 new jobs to the area, with further
expansion possible.
Sierra
Pacific Industries is based in Anderson, California. The firm owns and manages nearly 1.9
million acres of timberland in California and Washington, and is the second largest lumber
producer in the United States.
