Jun 01, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Sonae Industria, SGPS, SA announces that a subsidiary company signed with Direccao Geral de Energia e Geologia (DGEG), the Portuguese General Directorate for Energy and Geology, an agreement on the allocation of capacity to inject into the public grid electricity produced by a forest biomass power plant. The agreement was concluded following a proposal made for a public tender process launched by DGEG, as Sonae Industria said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. Under such agreement the company held by Sonae Industria will proceed with the construction of a forest biomass power plant in Mangualde, in the same place where it is already installed a MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) plant, to which will be supplied the thermal energy produced by the referred to power plant. Such forest biomass power plant will be able to inject up to 10 MVA of electricity into the public grid. The construction of the referred to power plant is still subject to obtaining the necessary licenses, being estimated its operation to begin until the end of 2014. The construction of the referred to power plant will represent an investment of around Euro 22 million. Sonae Industria SGPS SA is a Portugal's biggest wood-panels producer.
