U.S. containerboard production increased by 9% in 3Q 2021

U.S. containerboard production in 3Q 2021 increased 9% compared to 3Q 2020. It was up 7% when compared to the same nine months of 2020, as the American Forest & Paper Association reported.

3Q 2021 production of containerboard for export increased 10% compared to the same quarter last year; it was down 15% year-to-date.

The containerboard operating rate was 95.6%, up 1.7 points from 3Q 2020 and up 1.5 points year-to-date.

Mill inventories of containerboard at the end of September increased 35,000 short tons from the end of the previous quarter and were up 19,000 short tons compared to September 2020.
