Jun 15, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Brazilian pulp-and-paper company Suzano Bahia Sul Papel e Celulose SA will open on July 1, 2006 a trade office in Geneva, Switzerland, with the aim to boost exports to Europe, the company's main exporting destination, Valor Online reported.
In the first half of 2007, Suzano will also open a trade centre in Asia, but its location is still unknown.
According to Suzano's new president, Antonio Maciel Neto, once full capacity is reached at the company's plant in Mucuri, northeastern Bahia state, and adding the production of local pulp and paper company Ripasa Celulose e Papel, Suzano's production will reach 1.7 million tonnes of pulp and 1.1 million tonnes of paper.
Brazil's pulp-and-paper makers Suzano Bahia Sul and Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP) teamed up in November 2004 to jointly buy Ripasa. The two companies have equal stakes in the capital of Ripasa.
The larger production will consequently boost the company's exports to Europe and Asia, without abandoning exports to North America, Suzano's third largest export destination.
Suzano recorded a net profit of BRL 152.2 million ($66.7 million) in the first quarter of 2006, up 67.2% year-on-year.
