Byelorussian government approved new rules of timber sales that are called to increase timber exports and raise the efficiency of forest resources, head of the forest and hunting department with the Minsitry of forest industry Mikhail Kuzmenkov told Lesprom.ru. In line with the new rules all companies and individual entrepreneurs will purchase properly prepared timber. Mikhail Kuzmenkov said: 'The production of raw timber on the spot will be allowed to those Bellesprom-owned enterprises, that possess own timber-processing and timber production facilities and use timber for further production and own consumption. In 2006 new rules may be introduced for all companies without exclusions.' Previously all Bumlesprom enterprises, agricultural enterprises and other budget-funded organization were able acquire raw timber. In 2005 in accordance with the new rules the amount of prepared timber will increased from 60% in 2004 to 70% in 2005, 80% - in 2006 and 100% in 2008. In accordance with the new rules wholesale timber sales will be carried out through Bellesexport or through Byelorussian universal commodity exchange (market prices). Timber enterprises will sell round timber by auction. Budget-funded and agricultural organizations will sell prepared timber on preliminary appilcations, while prices will be set in line with the current price legislation. The new rules of timber sales will allow to raise revenue from timber sales from BYR 44 billion ($20.25 million) in 2003 to BYR 191 billion ($87.89 million) in 2007.
