Finnish printing paper maker UPM-Kymmene Oyj paid President and CEO Jussi Pesonen some Euro 1.0 million ($1.2 million) in fixed salary, fringe benefits and other remuneration in 2005, up from Euro 665,000 ($795,000) in 2004, company reported. Bonus accounted for Euro 240,000 euro ($287,000) of the CEO's annual pay, up from Euro 90,000 ($108,000). The combined earnings of the group's executive team, including salaries and perks, rose to some Euro 6.4 million ($7.6 million) from Euro 4.6 million ($5.5 million). Bonuses totalled Euro 1.0 million ($1.2 million) of the executives' annual pay, up from Euro 400,000 ($478,000). The remunerations paid in 2005 are based on the performance of the executive team members in the previous year. The executives may be paid a maximum performance-related bonus equivalent to 12 months of the fixed salary, according to UPM's pay scheme. UPM-Kymmene said its net sales declined to Euro 9.35 billion ($11.17 billion) in 2005 from Euro 9.82 billion ($11.73 billion) and its net profit plunged to Euro 261 million ($311.9 million) from Euro 920 million ($1.1 billion).
