French interior door manufacturer France-Portes, a subsidiary of U.S. door and window maker Jeld-Wen, will cut 123 jobs, or 21% of staff, with the closure of its production plant in Blotzheim, northeastern France, and the distribution site in Ales, southern France, the company said in a press release on May 4, 2005.
The production of the doors now manufactured in the Blotzheim factory, will be transferred to France-Portes' other facilities, in Ussel (south-central France), Argentre (northwestern France) and Eauze (southwestern France).
The Ussel and Argentre sites will be maintained and reinforced thanks to planned investments, and 40 jobs will be locally created, according to the management promises.
France Portes undertook to offer an alternative to all employees affected by the closures, the company said.
The management explained the decision for a reorganisation was taken with the aim of coping with the sluggish market, overcapacity, and increasing pressure on prices.
Jeld-Wen, which has been France-Portes' parent since 1998, employs over 20,000 worldwide.
