On May, 27 2005 Ilim Pulp director on timber-producing and timber-processing machines Dmitri Chuiko met FSC managing director Heiko Lidiker, Ilim Pulp public-affairs announced. According to Dmitri Chuiko, almost all timber enterprises owned by the company carried out repeated audit checks that allowed to reveal the violations of the internationally accepted FSC criteria. The director said that the enterprise took a number of steps to eliminate those violations and prepare the enterprise for an international audit. According to corporate plans, the goods produced by Ilim Pulp will partially get FSC marking in 4Q 2005 and in 2006. According to FSC managing director Heiko Lidiker, the voluntary forest certification initiated by Ilim Pulp enterprise will contribute to the worldwide process of forest certification and management, and will become a good example for Russian timber companies, as well as allow the goods to compete on the international and interior markets. Heiko Lidiker said that the terms in which the FSC certification will be carried out by Ilim Pulp enterprises will be defined in accordance with the volume and qulity of work needed to be done. FSC is one of the most popular voluntary certification systems supported by a vast number of major NGOs and social organizations.
