Apr 21, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The Vietnamese Trade Ministry has called on woodwork processors to diversify their designs and make their products more suitable to Japanese consumers' tastes in order to maximise earnings. Experts said that Vietnam's wooden products, especially wooden furniture, were the first choice for many Japanese consumers because of their reasonable prices, unique material, and suitable designs. The Trade Ministry forecast that revenue from wooden furniture exports to Japan will reach US$175 million this year and $300 million in 2010 while that of handicraft products will rise from $75 million in 2005 to $220 million in the next five years. The country earned around $150 million from wooden furniture exports to Japan in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 10.8%. It ranked fourth among woodwork and timber exporters to Japan.
