Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Paper Mills Limited (MPM) has signed a settlement agreement with Diatec Holding resolving a patent dispute between the parties, as MPM informed Lesprom Network. The dispute involved legal action initiated by MPM in Germany against Diatec’s subsidiaries, Sihl GmbH, Sihl Direct GmbH and Sihl AG. MPM charged that Diatec's subsidiaries infringed upon MPM’s inkjet media patent rights. The settlement calls for payment of a fee to MPM. The amount of the payment and other terms and conditions of the agreement were not disclosed. MPM said that it owns a wide range of intellectual property rights in the inkjet media segment and will continue to defend those rights. MPM is a leading manufacturer of printing and business communication paper, inkjet media and photographic materials. MPM has production sites in Japan and Germany. Sihl is a corporate group that develops, produces and sells, among other things, media for digital color printing using the inkjet and dielectric methods and flexible data carriers for registration and identification purposes.
