Somes, a Romanian cellulose and paper producer, said on Tuesday it raised just 29.5 billion lei (806,200 euro/$1.0 million) in a capital hike initially designed to boost its capital by 63 billion lei to 266.6 billion. Shareholders subscribed for 1,413,850 shares at their nominal value of 20,865 lei each, the company said in a statement to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), where its shares are traded. Somes is not listed on the BVB. The company raised its share capital to 233.1 billion lei. The Romanian industrial group Serviciile Comerciale Romane (SCR) acquired a majority stake in Somes last year. SCR said in December it would invest more than 100 billion lei in Somes to upgrade its production facilities and increase environment protection. Somes ( www.somes.ro ) is located in Dej, northwestern Romania. It claims to be the leader on the local market, with an annual production of 40,000 tonnes of paper and 70,000 tonnes of cellulose. Somes reported 13 billion lei in net profit for 2003, on turnover of 1.3 trillion lei.
