SFPA: Southern pine lumber exports up 44% in January 2014
USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service recently reported exports of Southern Pine was approximately 44.2 million board feet (MMbf) for January 2014. This volume represents an increase of 44% above the same month last year. Offshore shipments during January roughly break down as follows: 23.5 MMbf dressed, 9.6 MMbf rough, and 11.1 MMbf treated lumber.

Softwood lumber imports to the U.S. during January
were just over 874.5 million board feet (MMbf), up 12% from the volume imported
during January of 2013. Canada shipped
approximately 847 MMbf into the U.S. in January.
The Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) was founded in 1915 as
the Southern Pine Association. Today, SFPA is recognized as one of the foremost
trade organizations in the forest products industry and represents Southern
Pine lumber manufacturers from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. SFPA’s members
produce about 45% of the Southern Pine lumber in the United States.
