The paper making industry is among the fastest growing industries in the province. Six out of the country's top 10 paper making enterprises come from Shandong province, including Shandong Chenming Paper Making Group Co. Ltd. (CPMGC) and Huatai Group Co. Ltd. (HGC). In 2005, the CPMGC attained an output of 2.1 million tons and achieved sales revenue of RMB 17 billion to be ranked first in the country; HGC's newsprint production capacity reached 800,000 tons, which accounted for a nearly 30% share of the country's newsprint market and has become the largest enterprise for newsprint production in Asia.
