Feb 27, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Spanish paper maker Empresa Nacional de Celulosas (Ence) has invested some Euro 72 million in Uruguay in 2005, equal to 67% of the company's total investments, Invertia reported quoting Ence statement of February 23, 2006. The company invested mainly in planting of trees and enlarging its forestry assets in Uruguay, to ensure raw materials for pulp output. Ence plans to develop a paper mill on the border with Argentina, which has spurred controversies between Uruguay and Argentina, and protests of Argentine citizens. Ence targets to launch the future plant in Fray Bentos, on the border with Argentina, in 2008. The plant is expected to produce 500 000 tonnes of pulp annually. Ence is an Iberian and American integral wood-transforming forest company. Ence is the number one owner of eucalypt timberland in Europe as well as being the leading producer in Europe and number two in the world of eucalyptus-based pulp.
