Jun 02, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers posted a 31% rise in net profit to 1.13 billion rupees for the year ended March 2008 on higher volumes, it said in a statement. Total income in 2007/08 rose by 10% to 9.7 billion rupees ($ 229 million), and paper production rose over 6% to 245,471 metres of paper equivalent, Reuters reported. The company had earlier announced a 7.25-billion-rupee ($171 million) expansion plan to raise capacity to 400,000 metres by end-2009. It now expects this capacity to be operational by June 2010. The company has completed its mill development plan, raising its pulp production capacity over 38% to 720 tonnes per day, the benefits of which will accrue from this month, it said.
